Murmuration
A reverb whose tail is shaped by a self-organising flock of birds, a murmuration.
- Modulate the reverb through a flock simulation, not an LFO
- Let the flock react to the signal instead of repeating a cycle
- Choose from seven rooms, chamber to cathedral
- Trigger sudden shifts in the reverb's movement
- Keep the tail alive without sounding mechanically modulated
Six rooms, four sources
Pick a source, pick a room, then move MIX: it is the plugin's own knob, from the bare source to the tail alone.
BYPASS takes the plugin out of the sound and the picture at once. A loop drawn on the waveform snaps to the beat, and stays in place when you switch rooms.
Read the note: Why algorithmic reverbs ring, and what modulation does about it.
TIGHT ROOM · A room you can hear the walls of
The smallest voicing: short decay, early energy, the flock held in a tight ball. Use it when you want a source placed rather than washed: the tail stops before it can blur anything.
WARM CHAMBER · Warmth without distance
More size and decay than the room, damping still high, so the top of the tail rolls off before it can whistle. The flock spreads but stays coherent. This is the one that flatters almost anything.
LARGE HALL · Depth you can put a mix in
Long decay, low damping, wide image. The 64 delay lines are far enough apart that the tail has real density, and because each one rides its own bird, it never settles into a drone.
VAST CATHEDRAL · The largest thing it can build
Size and decay near maximum, damping low, width almost full. The flock fills the frame and keeps wheeling, and the stereo image drifts with it, because the birds' horizontal positions are what pan the delay lines.
PLATE SHIMMER · A plate, built from birds
High diffusion, almost no pre-delay, modulation pushed up. Because every delay line is modulated by its own bird, the tail never settles into the metallic ring that gives plate emulations away.
AMBIENCE AIR · Air, not a room
Short decay, high damping, maximum width and modulation. At its factory 50 % it does not sound like a space at all. It sounds like the source was recorded somewhere rather than added to.
Every delay line is modulated and panned by the swarm. The reverb takes on a life of its own, constantly moving without ever becoming chaotic. A detailed room model gives the realism; the swarm gives the life.
Seven voicings including a gated Non-Linear mode, ducking and tempo sync.
- 64-line FDN reverb modulated by a self-organising swarm
- Seven voicings: room, chamber, hall, cathedral, plate, ambience, non-linear
- Size, decay, damping, diffusion, modulation and startle
- Ducking, tempo-synced pre-delay, stereo width, two visual themes
- Two assignable LFOs — tempo-syncable, with adaptive depth
The reverb tail lives and breathes, without ever becoming cluttered. On a snare or an acoustic guitar, it immediately brings something alive and present that makes all the difference.
